Getting Started
What is BitterDesk?
BitterDesk is a standalone agentic help desk for websites and apps. It adds an evidence-bound support widget with one script tag, answers from your declared product context, captures safe context, and forwards conversations to your team.
Bitter properties are first consumers of BitterDesk, but that is one configuration and proof point, not a requirement for outside customers.
How long does setup take?
Basic setup takes under 10 minutes. Add a single script tag to your website, create an installation, configure the agent prompt, and set a webhook URL or handoff destination. You can start handling customer conversations immediately after setup.
Do I need technical knowledge to use BitterDesk?
No technical expertise is required for day-to-day use. Adding the chat widget requires pasting one line of HTML. Agent prompts and support boundaries can be configured from the dashboard. Webhook integrations may require technical setup, but the payloads are designed for straightforward HTTPS endpoints.
AI and Chat
How does the AI chat work?
The BitterDesk AI support agent follows your site-specific prompt, support policy, and knowledge boundary. It answers supported questions, asks for missing safe context, keeps the conversation history inside the session, and transfers the conversation to a human workflow when it cannot confidently resolve the issue.
Can the AI handle multiple languages?
The AI understands and responds in the major world languages. It automatically detects the customer's language from their input and responds in kind. For best results, provide knowledge base articles in the languages your customers use most frequently.
What happens when no agents are online?
When no human agents are available, the AI continues handling questions it can answer. For questions that require human intervention, it collects the customer's message and contact information, preserves the transcript, and sends the handoff through your configured webhook or dashboard workflow.
Pricing and Plans
How much does BitterDesk cost?
BitterDesk plans start at $9/month for Starter (1 site, 500 chat sessions/month). Professional is $29/month (10 sites, 5,000 sessions) and Enterprise is $99/month (100 sites, 50,000 sessions). All plans include the chat widget, agent configuration, durable transcripts, and signed webhook handoff. Billing is monthly through BitterCheckout; see the pricing page for full details.
Can I upgrade or downgrade at any time?
Yes, plan changes take effect immediately. Upgrading gives you instant access to new features. Downgrading preserves your data but limits access to premium features. There are no long-term contracts or cancellation fees.
Integrations and Data
What integrations are available?
BitterDesk integrates through signed webhooks with any HTTPS endpoint your team controls. Conversations, contact details, answer receipts, transcripts, and handoff events can be delivered to your owning system so your team can keep using its existing workflow.
How is customer data protected?
BitterDesk encrypts data in transit, keeps site configurations isolated, and encourages safe support practices. Do not ask visitors to send passwords, one-time codes, API keys, private keys, raw card data, or unrelated personal information. You can export or delete customer data according to your plan and configuration.
Can I export my data?
Yes, your conversation records, transcripts, installation configuration, answer receipts, and handoff state can be exported in standard formats when enabled for your account. This helps you keep support data portable instead of trapping it in the chat widget.
Platform
Do I need the Bitter platform to use BitterDesk?
No. BitterDesk is standalone support software for your own website or app. BitterHub, BitterCheckout, BitterPing, and BitterQuote are optional sibling services that can integrate with it when useful.
Can Bitter properties use the same product?
Yes. Bitter properties can be first consumers of BitterDesk with the same one-script install, policy boundary, durable transcript, and signed handoff model. Outside teams can install and run BitterDesk independently.
